Goshen Township Fire/EMS Department
Cadet Program
The Goshen Township firefighter's cadet program has a long, proud heritage in the community. It started in the 1950's simply as a means to give young people something to do. Today 15 of Goshen's 50 firefighters are cadet gradates.
Cadets are given real life hands on experience to decide if the firefighting world is an appropriate career choice for them. They go with real firefighters on runs and assist with firefighting, rescue operations, and cleaning of station and equipment. They do everything a real firefighter does, with the exception of driving trucks, riding in the rear of life squad units, interior firefighting, or any hazardous atmospheres.
Any resident of Goshen Township between the ages of 14 and 18 may apply for the program. Qualified applicants will be in good standing with their school and the community, and maintain a certain grade point average. Interested candidates can pick up an application at the station from Scott Murphy or William Burns.
