Goshen Township Cracks Down on Drugs!
Last year, Goshen Township Police executed 42 vehicular narcotic searches, 37 of them ending in a confirmed find. Police searched 21 residences for drugs, and made 35 arrests for direct drug sales to police officers or informants. A total of 251 drug related arrests were made in all. This year Chief Ray Snyder wants to make sure those numbers go down.
In 2007, Goshen Township obtained national certification in narcotics detection, and two officers obtained clandestine (meth) lab certifications.
The fight against drugs in Goshen Township got a boost from a long time community icon on April 15th when Gene Vanlandingham's family presented the township with a $500 check to help purchase equipment for the drug task force.
"I think it's great. He was smiling down when we gave that donation out. It was definitely one of his wishes," says Vanlandingham's grandson, Jeff Shelton.
He presented the check at the April 15th Trustees meeting.
The funds were not left as part of Vanlandingham's will, but his family knew his wishes well saying, "His first love was his family, and his second love was his community."
Vanlandingham and his family have a long history in Goshen Township.
Vanlandingham served as a trustee from 1978-1982, and was a member on several community boards and issues. He is also the owner of Vanlandingham Real Estate Construction.
Gene Vanlandingham died on February 8th of this year after battling pancreatic cancer. |
