Goshen Township, Ohio

Goshen's Chef Harvey Golden named 2008 ACF Chef of the Year!

Chef Harvey Golden was named the 2008 Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Cincinnati chapter at the organization's annual President's dinner on March 24th.

Another certified chef who is a part of the ACF organization nominated Golden, but nomination forms are kept confidential. In order to be eligible to win the award, nominees must be able to prove 7 years work experience, be able to prove different levels of certification, and pass a written exam. This is the first time Golden has been nominated for the high mark of distinction.

A cornerstone of the Chef of The Year distinction is the act of giving back to the profession through the development of students and community involvement. Golden said he achieved this goal by taking his own time to train other chefs. Golden usually does this 3 times per year, but says this is a busy year for him, as he's already certified chefs at three different locations in the past month.

"Congratulations are certainly in order for Chef Golden," Said Mike Keeley, Chairman of the Goshen Township Board of Trustees, "This is a huge honor, and Goshen is lucky to have attracted Chef Golden and his restaurant "Gravy" to our community."

Golden said receiving this award was, "an honor," and noted, "All the chefs in Cincinnati, we're a very close knit family."

Golden owns and operates "Gravy Restaurant" on State Route 28 in Goshen Township as well as "My Personal Gourmet" catering.

Golden serves as the chair for the ACF Chef and Child Foundation in Cincinnati, and has been recognized as an Accredited Certified Examiner (ACE) and as a Personal Certified Executive Chef (PCEC). Chef Golden earned his culinary degree from the world-renowned Midwest Culinary Institute where he received his training from Certified Master Chef and current ACF President John Kinsella. Golden also earned a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from Xavier University.
