Fall Back, and Plan Ahead
You'll get an extra hour of sleep this weekend, and the State Fire Marshal's office wants to make sure it's a safe sleep.
You're reminded to change the batteries in your home smoke detectors this weekend when you set your clocks back.
As of October 19th of this year, 80 people have died in a total of 66 fatal house fires across Ohio. Investigations reveal an alarming fact- only 33% (22 homes) of those fires happened in homes where smoke detectors were present. Even more alarming is the fact that of the smoke detectors in those 22 homes, only 6 of them were functional at the time of the fire.
Working smoke detectors are recommended for every level of your home and inside each sleeping area. Also, make sure you have a clear escape plan with your family in the event of a house fire.
So when you set your clocks back on Sunday, November 1st, make sure you remember to also change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
If you have additional questions or need assistance checking your home smoke detectors, call the Goshen Township Fire Department at 722-3500. |
