The St. Vincent De Paul Society is bringing something special to the Goshen community starting in June!
The Society has been working to develop and open a thrift store on State Route 28, in the old "Traditions" Bridal Shop. Tom Callahan, Director for the store, says the goal is to create a unique shopping experience for residents, as well as a way to help Clermont County residents in need.
The store is a non-profit organization registered with the IR S. Callahan says any profits made will be used to help people in need in Clermont County. "The money can be used to help people pay their utility bills or rent, things like that," Callahan said. Callahan said the store also intends to help homebound seniors.
The store will display furniture, a special collection of infant clothing, children's, and adult clothing on smaller, department store style clothing racks. Callahan says these kinds of displays allow the shopping atmosphere to feel more high end, even though the prices will remain low.
The organization needs to bring in about $200 a day in order to break even. It's a realistic goal considering the use of the building is free. The Pappas family donated the use of the building as a community service initiative. Callahan hopes the community service won't stop there. He hopes high school students and others in the community will feel moved to donate their time to working at the shop.
The Thrift Shop opens on June 1st and will keep regular hours from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Donations of clothing and furniture are accepted. |
